Leaside Cheesemakers was started by Brian and Esme Dedman on a small farm in Teesdale, County Durham.
They have spent much of 2015 training and teaching us and the business moved to our home on Rokeby Estate in 2016.
We produce a range of hand-made artisan cheeses using the same recipes and techniques handed to us. On cheese making days we collect cows milk from the family's dairy farm in Teesdale, we gently pasteurise it and process it into cheese using vegetarian rennet. It is then ripened for five to seven weeks until we consider it is ready for sale.
We can proudly say our cheese is award winning...
At the Great Yorkshire Show in 2013, our Teesdale Blue cheese was awarded First Prize in it's class and was also given the prestigious Prince of Wales Award for Outstanding Quality in Dairy Products. The White Hilton was awarded Second Prize in it's class.
In 2014, the 'White Hilton' won it's class at the Great Yorkshire Show as well as winning two gold stars in the Great Taste Awards. The Lemon Flavoured soft cheese also won bronze at the Great Yorkshire show.
In Nov. 2014 'White Hilton' won Silver at the World Cheese Awards in London - it had quite a year!
2015 was a busy year with training and handover but we hope to once again put our cheeses into shows in 2016 and continue the amazing legacy that Brian and Esme Dedman have handed to us.
We sell at a number of local farmers markets and can arrange local delivery for larger orders. We also supply a number of local outlets who are listed on this site under 'Where to Buy'.
